Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple
Located on the banks of the Asan River, about 6.5 km from Dehradun city center, Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple is one of the most revered and scenic shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Tucked within a natural cave, this temple is famous for the unique way water droplets continuously fall over the Shiva Linga — hence the name “Tapkeshwar,” meaning “dripping Shiva.”
Surrounded by lush greenery, flowing river streams, and peaceful vibes, the temple offers a perfect blend of spirituality and natural beauty. The echoing chants, the cool cave interiors, and the sacred atmosphere make it a favorite among devotees and tourists alike.
The site becomes especially vibrant during Shivratri, when thousands of pilgrims gather to offer prayers. Apart from spiritual significance, it’s also a great picnic spot — families often enjoy sitting by the riverside and soaking in the peaceful environment.
You can also explore the nearby sulfur-water springs and small caves. The temple is easily accessible by road, with ample parking and local food stalls around.
